Mona Gunn 2019-2020 Gold Star Mothers National President message: if we all focused on two or three projects all year long that unites us, it will be powerful and we will become known as the organization (1) who is quilting Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan wounded warriors all around the country using Quilts of Valor made by chapter members quilting and bonding as members, (2) we will become known as the organization pinning and thanking Vietnam veterans welcoming them home all around the country, (3) we will become known as the organization collecting items and packing care packages for deployed troops with Operation Gratitude.
That the last Sunday in September shall hereafter be designated and known as “Gold Star Mothers Day,” and it shall be the duty of the President to request its observance as provided for in this resolution.” Proclamation by the President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the United States, September 14, 1940.
American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. A federally chartered nonprofit organization comprises Mothers who lost a son or daughter during a major U.S. conflict, strategic military area, or while in service to the United States. Its chapters work to perpetuate the ideals of Americanism for which their children so gallantly fought and died.
